The Economic Rights Party

The Economic Rights Party is organizing around two fundamental moral principles:

  • As thinking human beings workers have the right to a central role in the management of organizations they work in, and:
  • The establishment of a right to own property must be limited by the principle that no one should be denied access to enough resources to maintain a decent life.

These two moral principles are in opposition to the economic exploitation of one class of people by another and inextricably connected to two other central social problems, discrimination and violence, as in Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s reference to the triplet evils of “racism, extreme materialism, and militarism.”

As examples of policies to realize the two moral principles, the first principle could be instituted gradually by support for strong workers’ rights to organize and negotiate with current owners, and eventually by workers, rather than investors, electing the management of the businesses they work in. An efficient way the second principle could be instituted is via a guaranteed basic income for all legal residents of a territory.

Specific policy ideas, both to realize these two principles and for related issues, will be voted on by members of the party. We are planning a process for conducting a vote sometime in early 2027.
